The Confined Spaces 6160 City and Guilds have made a clear demarcation between ‘Entrants’ are the workers going inside a Confined space. ‘Supervisors’ or ‘Managers’, are those controlling people going inside confided Space administrative staff.

 Courses covered are for teams ‘entering’ and the risk level appropriate to Low, Med and High They concentrate on the equipment required and how to perform an entry in a safe and procedural manner. Confined Space delegates performing high risk course are required to be clean shaven due to the Breathing apparatus used.

These qualifications are for those working in confined spaces either in a water or non-water environment. Learners may be undertaking roles in confined spaces at low, medium, or high-risk levels.

The qualifications allow learners to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment or career progression within chosen sector.

This qualification may be taken by any learner aged 16 or over

Course agenda

Assess learners against the national standard in a
realistic medium/high risk environment including:

• preparing to work safely

• entering and exiting confined spaces safely

• preparing and using appropriate respiratory protective
equipment

• using equipment and tools safely

• following procedures

• dealing with emergencies.

There is also a behavioural emphasis on the learner
undertaking the assessment in an efficient

and safe manner. The learner must demonstrate sufficient
knowledge and understanding of

medium risk confined spaces, and must demonstrate the
appropriate practical skills, through a

mix of practical observation and knowledge assessment.

The unit is based on the National Occupational Standard
EUSCS02 developed by Energy and

Utility Skills and approved in May 2020.
